How to fix Acqua Effects showing Nebula black skin

Modified on Fri, 08 Sep 2023 at 02:13 PM

When you try to run an Acqua Effect plug-in, but the plug-in user interface (UI) shows a black or a Black Nebula skin, it means that the product .N2S file is not present in the plug-in folder or cannot be accessed in the specified path. The exact reason for this behaviour may depend on several factors that should be analyzed individually.

  1. N2S file was deleted.
  2. N2S file was not installed.
  3. N2S file was not installed due to a lack of space.
  4. N2S file exists, but the plug-in can not open or load it due to an operating system permissions issue.
  5. N2S file exists, but plug-in files are duplicated.
  6. The file system is case-sensitive.
  7. The Microsoft Visual C++ runtime libraries.
  8. The Acustica Audio framework is damaged.

1. N2S file was deleted.
Uninstall the problematic product via the Aquarius Desktop application and then reinstall it again via the Aquarius Desktop application.
It is advisable to visually monitor the product destination folder to verify that the .N2S file is copied from the Aquarius Desktop application stage area to the plug-in destination folder.

2. N2S file was not installed.
Normally this behaviour happens when the Aquarius Desktop macOS osascript password request is refused or cancelled.
It is advisable to visually monitor the product destination folder to verify that the .N2S file is copied from the Aquarius Desktop application stage area to the plug-in destination folder.

3. N2S file was not installed due to a lack of space.
Purge the stage area in the Aquarius Desktop application and then reinstall the product via the Aquarius Desktop application.
It is advisable to visually monitor the product destination folder to verify that the .N2S file is copied from the Aquarius Desktop application stage area to the plug-in destination folder.

4. N2S file exists but the plug-in can not open or load it due to an operating system permissions issue.
Uninstall the problematic product via the Aquarius Desktop application. Reboot the computer and then log-in using an administrator account. Finally, reinstall the product via the Aquarius Desktop application.
It is advisable to visually monitor the product destination folder to verify that the .N2S file is copied from the Aquarius Desktop application stage area to the plug-in destination folder.

5. N2S file exists, but plug-in files are duplicated.

Uninstall the problematic product via the Aquarius Desktop application. Then manually remove all leftover files and/or folders; your DAW is still trying to load the old version, and then delete the plug-in cache file to force new complete plug-ins re-scan on the next run. Finally, reinstall the product via the Aquarius Desktop application.

It is advisable to visually monitor the product destination folder to verify that the .N2S file is copied from the Aquarius Desktop application stage area to the plug-in destination folder.

6. The file system is case-sensitive.

Case-sensitive file systems are unsupported or recommended for the main operating system partition where applications and plug-ins are installed.

The workaround is to create a full backup main partition using the time machine application (or some similar one), then change the file system format to case-insensitive, and finally, restore your partition from the time machine backup.

7. The Microsoft Visual C++ runtime libraries.

The programs which are written in C# and C++, as Acustica Audio products, require the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime libraries for a run. Installing the last Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library packages manually should solve this issue.

8. The Acustica Audio framework is damaged.

When the Acustica Audio framework is damaged, all Acqua Effect products will have problems with the graphical interface. To resolve this, manually delete the Acustica Audio framework, restart your computer, and reinstall the problem product(s).
