How to backup your N4 or N4 Player content

N4 and N4 Player files share resources between the plug-in files (VST, AAX, and AU) and the repository folder.

After the first installation using the Aquarius Desktop application, when framework and system files are installed, plug-in files and repository folder behave as individual files, and for this reason, moving plug-ins files and shared resources repository folder manually to a secure (external) medium will be enough for making a correct backup.


macOS plug-in files (N4 plug-in file and XML file) to backup:

  • Plug-in path for VST2 format: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/ (default fixed path)
  • Plug-in path for VST3 format: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/ (default fixed path)
  • Plug-in path for AAX format: /Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins/ (default fixed path)
  • Plug-in path for AU format: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/ (default fixed path)


macOS shared resources repository folder (Nebula4 folder) to backup :

  • Repository folder path macOS: /Library/Audio/Presets/AcusticaAudio/Nebula4/


Windows plug-in files (N4 plug-in file and XML file) to backup :

  • Plug-in path for VST2 format: C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Vstplugins\ (not fixed path)
  • Plug-in path for VST3 format: C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\ (default fixed path)
  • Plug-in path for AAX format: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins\ (default fixed path)
  • Plug-in path for AU format: N/A


Windows shared resources repository folder (Nebula4TempRepository folder) to backup:

  • Repository folder path Windows: C:\Nebula4TempRepository\ (not fixed path)
